Updates and Housekeeping
Why I disappeared for a few weeks.
Hi everybody. Are you still there?
First, I want to say thank you to everyone who is subscribed to this substack and who has been reading my post over the past few months. I can see on the dashboard that there are around 20 people who consistently read my posts. It’s a good reminder that even when people aren’t liking or commenting on the posts, they’re still reading. If you are one of those people, please drop a comment on this one and let me know what you enjoy that keeps you coming back.
You may have noticed that I haven’t made a post for a few weeks. And a lot has happened in that time.
Officially Finished my Fulbright grant
Said goodbye to a lot of students, coworkers, and fellow grantees that became my friends over that past year
Met up with a friend visiting from Hawaii
Scratched gums and dealt with infection
Survived Typhoon Bavi
Moved to a new apartment an hour away
Shopped for appliances and essentials for new place
Navigated the complexities of Taiwan immigration paperwork (including multiple doctors visits, and criminal background checks)
Started training at a new job
Met a lot of new friends
Caught a cold from the kindergarteners
More heavy rains with flood warnings
Leak in the bathroom roof(!?)
There has been a lot of movement. Emotionally, physically, and mentally. New environments, new people, new systems. I’ve been feeling like I fell off a boat, and I’m swimming my way back to the shore. In my spare time, I’ve been totally relaxing. I watched a couple of movies. And I haven’t felt like writing for public consumption.
I have wanted to write this message for a while, and If I told you all the things that have come up and pushed the writing of this back to this moment, you would think I sounded like a kid telling the story of how the dog ate his homework.

My new writing set-up is in place and feels great. And I’m excited to get back to writing and posting here again. I’ve got a lot of stuff in the works, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with you here.
Expect the weekly posts in the same vein as the past few months to resume in August.
I’ve also started working on longer more in depth pieces similar to the ones from last year, which I’ll post intermittently.
I’m still working out whether I want to keep these two styles in the same Substack “publication”, or if I want to create two distinct publication streams from the same Substack account.
If I keep them on one, they will be mixed into this same subscription, and I could make some kind of tag to let you know which ones are going to be more research based.
If I separate them, you would have to subscribe to the other publication, and I could link them in these shorter articles to let the readers here know about them and where to find them.
Let me know what you think.
That’s all for now. See you soon.
